Philipp Kaiser, a curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, is making a 5,600-mile move, having been picked as the new director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.
Artforum reported the news, which was published in Der Standard. Kaiser had been with MOCA since 2007, and was the curator of the museum’s Jack Goldstein retrospective, which was canceled after art dealer Jeffrey Deitch joined the museum last year. The Goldstein show is slated to open at the Orange County Museum of Art next year.
Before joining MOCA, Mr. Kaiser had been curator for modern and contemporary art at Museum fur Gegenwartskunst Basel.
The Museum Ludwig was founded in 1976 by collectors Peter and Irene Ludwig. Mr. Ludwig was the owner of a German chocolate factory and the subject of an artwork expose by Hans Haacke, Der Pralinenmeiste (The Chocolate Master). The museum bestows the annual Wolfgang Hahn Prize, one of contemporary art’s most prestigious awards.
