Oakland Museum of California

The Oakland Museum of California is located at 1000 Oak St, Oakland, CA and was established in 1969. The museum is dedicated to the art, history and natural sciences of California, with a collection of over 1.9 million objects that includes Californian art as well as historical artifacts and natural specimens. A beautiful garden with native plantings and sculptures surrounds the institution. Notable past exhibitions include “Dorothea Lange: Politics of Seeing” and “Queer California: Untold Stories.” The museum’s building, designed by architect Kevin Roche, integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, including gardens and terraces. The Oakland Museum of California also offers gallery chats, educational programs and community events like Friday Nights at OMCA with Off the Grid and Spotlight Sundays, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of California’s diverse culture and history.
